Open Call for Artists in the Fifth International Art Prize “Arte Laguna”

Venice, 26 October 2010 – The attention to the different expression languages of visual arts is one of the main features of the International Prize Arte Laguna. The fifth edition of the Prize presents as important novelty the creation of two new sections of the competition dedicated to videoart and performance, expressive forms very used from the contemporary artists of last years and very appreciated from public and critics.

The organization of the Prize decided to insert two new sections due to the great success of applications, quite at the end of last edition, with the opening of a new call for selecting performers. The artists that exhibited in the evening of 6th March 2010 during the vernissage of the collective exhibition of the 2009 finalists, that surprised and interested the many public of the Venice Arsenale.

On March 2011 the Nappe of the Arsenale of Venice will gives space also to videoart and performance, artistic expressions that will receive attention of meeting, lectures and educational programmes focused on the public's appreciation and knowledge.

In the perspective to increase the artists opportunities, the Arte Laguna Prize proposes in each edition new collaborations, this year also with the Tina B Festival of Prague, the annual event that welcome in every edition woks of art and public in the capital of the Czech Republic. Tina B will select within the artist enrolled in the 5th Arte Laguna Prize one performance that will be exhibited in the Festival and its venues, as Danzig and Vicenza. Another international synergy is represented by Open, the Festival of Sculptures and Installations in the period of the Venice Film Festival.

The fifth edition of the Prize offers a total amount of prizes of 100.000 euro and increase the opportunities for artists because beyond the 5 institutional prizes of 5 th ousand euro each one, it focus on the art education through 4 Residences for artists and it creating fruitful collaborations between creativity and entrepreneurship with the Business for Art Prize "ReiL" that will give the possibility to one artist for a residency of one month in Bahia in Brazil for the realization of one project site specific.The Arte Laguna Prize gives the possibility of a direct entrance in the art market and its network, in constantly growing, of International Galleries.

The applications are opened until the 16th of November, but for participating in the Artist Residency "School of Glass Abate Zanetti" the deadline is the 3rd November. The artists should present within this date their own application for having the possibility to be selected for the one month residency in the Glass School in Murano - Venice and for creating in close contact with the glass masters.
